The Morning Stake | 2025.03.07

I am going to get up a baseball series preview later today as they are in Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon University for a 3-game series.

Uniform Stuff

UniWatch has a neat graphic (if this is your sort of thing) where it tracks the helmet stripes and helmets for Texas Tech from the inception of program to the 2000’s. The person did this for the Southwest conference teams and also has Baylor, Arkansas, Houston, Rice, SMU, Texas A&M, and TCU. Just an interesting way of tracking uniforms.

On the Court

Congrats to the Lady Raiders who beat Utah in a huge upset last night and move to the quarterfinals in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships. This was the 1,000 win for the Lady Raider program. The Lady Raiders will take on No. 21 Oklahoma State today at 8:00 p.m. ESPN+.

On the Diamond

No. 15 Texas Tech softball will host No. 13 Oklahoma State this weekend, but the schedule changed a bit and they will play 2 games on Friday at 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., no games on Saturday, and the final game on Sunday.

On the Track

Wes Kittley was named the men’s and women’s Big 12 Conference Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year! A huge and worthy honor for Kittley.

On the Gridiron

I did not know that head coach Joey McGuire would do a press conference yesterday in preparation of spring practice happening on Monday. I have listened to it and there’s a lot to unpack, which I will do over the weekend. In addition to McGuire, the press conference featured running backs coach Garrett McGuire, cornerbacks coach Darcel McBath, and safeties coach Rob Greene.

Then McGuire did a podcast (which may be new) with Robert Giovannetti, which I have not had time to listen to, but here it is.
