Texas Tech Football Notebook: 2 Commits and 2 Interviews

Good morning. A couple of football only notes from this weekend, including two commits and two interviews. The commits feel like projects and I wonder if the question needs to be asked that this is a trend on a handful of recent commits. For those of you who follow recruiting more than me (I follow it really only when a player commits) can opine if that’s a correct thought.

This is the longest that I think I have seen James Blanchard discuss what he does. He joined Adam Breneman for about 45 minutes. I don’t know that it was anything revolutionary, but it was a good listen. The one thing that I thought was that Blanchard does want to see multi-year contracts and he wants both sides to honor those contracts, if it is a bad evaluation on his part, then they have to deal with that and the player has to commit to multiple years as well.

I am conflicted on Greg McElroy, he’s on a DFW radio station weekly and I find him to be relatively intellectually honest. It also does not benefit Texas Tech and Joey McGuire not to participate on McElroy’s show, especially with McElroy being a Southlake guy and a Texas high school football guy and McElroy reminded me that he committed to Texas Tech and he said he loved Lubbock. As you are, I am on high alert for SEC bias and McElroy has his moments. Regardless, this is a good interview and it is the first half of the video if you are interested.

Offensive lineman Jacob Crow (6-8/290) from Alcoa, Tennessee, committed to Texas Tech on Sunday. Crow has been offered by Northwestern, Toledo, Virginia Tech, Memphis, Navy, and a handful of FCS programs. Crow is a 3-star according to Rivals and 24/7, but not rated on On3.

Westfield (Houston) defensive end Demarcus Marks (6-4/215) also committed to Texas Tech on Sunday. Marks had offers from Utah and was expected to visit next weekend (we’ll see if that happens) and additional offers from Colorado State, New Mexico, and UTEP.
