Another commitment. Another guard. First some news.
- LeJuan Watts is transferring to Washington. I figured that he would also head back to the West Coast. He played at Washington State prior to arriving at Texas Tech. This makes sense. The Huskies weren’t great in the Big Ten and they definitely need assistance in all sorts of areas.
- Jazz Henderson, Jr. is headed to Ball State, the alma mater of David Letterman. Ball State wasn’t very good last year so the hope is that he improves the Cardinal.
The latest commit is Dra (Dravyn) Gibbs-Lawhorn and he’s already signed, sealed, and delivered with Texas Tech.
Player: Dra Gibbs-Lawhorn
Height: 6’1″
Weight: 185
Transferring From: UNLV Rebels
Years Remaining: 1
Hometown: Lafayette, IN
Stats: 34.1 minutes; 20.7 points; 49.7% FG%; 41.4% 3P%; 83.8% FT%; 3.1 rebounds; 2.5 assists; 0.5 blocks; 1.5 steals; 2.5 turnovers
Gibbs-Lawhorn is a special offensive player. An ORTG of 116.6 (Atwell was 142.0 and Anderson was 123.1) and a pretty high usage rate, meaning he’s used to being in control of the ball quite a bit and he can play the point to an extent. His offensive box score plus/minus is 5.3 (Atwell’s was 5.7 and Anderson’s was 6.7) and on defense was -0.1. Remember this when you get upset at Gibbs-Lawhorn’s defense at some point in the season. Gibbs-Lawhorn isn’t a rebounder and isn’t a high-turnover guy. He’s also not getting to the line really at all, a very low free throw rate. But we haven’t even talked about the best part, which is that he’s making 57% of his 2-point shots and 41% of his 3-point shots.
