Good morning from Lawrence, Kansas. Youssouf and I drove up yesterday and he has a basketball tournament here this weekend. Long drive and late night is the cause for the delay this morning.

On the Diamond

Texas Tech softball defeated Arizona State 6-0 leaving them needing 1 more game to secure the Big 12 title. Not totally sure what happened, but Nijaree Canady is listed as the starting pitcher, but didn’t pitch. Kaitlyn Terry went all 7 innings and obviously shut out the Sun Devils. Taylor Pannel and Desirae Spearman homered as well. Game 2 starts at 4:00 p.m. today.

Texas Tech baseball lost to Oklahoma State 16-6 in 7 innings. Game 2 is today at 1:00 p.m.

On the Hardwood

The Lady Raiders have signed New Mexico guard Destinee Hooks (5’9″) as Hooks averaged 13.4 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists last year for the Lobos:

“Destinee is one of the most underrated, prolific scoring guards in the portal,” Gerlich said. “We have seen it firsthand two years in a row. She is a three-level scorer who loves to take the big shot. She has the athletic ability and physical stature to guard multiple positions while possessing that dog-mentality that we were looking for when constructing this roster. She is a great fit for Lady Raider basketball and she’s ready to showcase her talents on the P4 level. I can’t wait to coach Destinee.”

Hooks spent her sophomore and junior seasons at New Mexico, while playing her freshman season at Vincennes University in Vincennes, Ind. In her past two years with the Lobos, Hooks went 344-for-805 from the field (.427) while shooting 87-for-277 from behind the arc (.314). She’s has recorded 908 points, 87 threes, 233 rebounds, 90 assists and 57 steals.

On the Gridiron

The NFL Draft is taking place and because social media appears to be flooding you with content, you probably already know who has been picked by what team, but here’s a rundown thus far:

1.02 DE David Bailey – New York Jets
2.43 LB Jacob Rodriguez – Miami Dolphins
2.49 DT Lee Hunter – Carolina Panthers
3.70 DE Romello Height – San Francisco 49ers
3.75 WR Caleb Douglas – Miami Dolphins

The draft will continue today and would guess a few more Red Raider names will be called.
