Texas Tech softball will start the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City with the first opponent being Baylor and first-pitch at 1:30 p.m.

Texas Tech softball had seven players selected to All-Big 12 teams:

The Big 12 announced its end of year awards for the 2026 season today which featured seven Red Raiders including NiJaree Canady who was named Co-Pitcher of the Year while Gerry Glasco was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

Canady was joined by Jackie Lis, Kaitlyn Terry and Mia Williams as unanimous First Team All-Big 12 members while Jasmyn Burns, Mihyia Davis and Taylor Pannell made the second team. Canady and Pannell also made the All-Big 12 Defensive Team for pitcher and third base, respectively.

USA Today announced their All-Big 12 teams and more accolades:

USA Today Sports Network announced its All-Big 12 Team on Wednesday morning. The team is comprised of one player at each position including a utility and three pitchers. Five Red Raiders claimed the honors including Jackie Lis, Mia Williams, Mihyia Davis, Kaitlyn Terry and NiJaree Canady.

Terry also earned Player of the Year honors, Canady Pitcher of the Year and Williams Newcomer of the Year. Canady finished conference play with a 1.54 ERA, 11-2 record and 96 strikeouts through 68.1 innings of work. Opponents hit just .157 against her in Big 12 play as she helped Tech to another Big 12 Regular Season Title.

Texas Tech baseball hosts BYU for the final Big 12 Conference series of the year. First-pitch is tonight at 6:30.

 ESPN’s David Purdum writes that the Indiana Gaming Commission and the Ohio Casino Control Commission are now involved in the Brendan Sorsby gambling saga:

State gaming regulators in multiple states have launched investigations into Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s alleged betting activity, regulatory officials told ESPN.The Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) and Ohio Casino Control Commission (OCCC) are investigating Sorsby, who played at Indiana and Cincinnati before transferring to Texas Tech this offseason. Officials for the IGC and a spokesperson for the OCCC confirmed the investigations to ESPN but declined to provide further details.Kentucky Horse Racing & Gaming told ESPN it is aware of the case and is working with the NCAA, which has opened its own investigation into Sorsby’s alleged betting, and is reviewing the situation with its licensees.

Sorsby had accounts with sportsbooks and daily fantasy operators in several states, according to multiple sources with direct knowledge of the matter, who described him as a high-volume, low-stakes bettor, meaning he placed many wagers for small amounts. Some of his bets were placed using an account under a different name, multiple sources said.

 CBS Sports’ Brad Crawford writes that the American football Coaches Association voted to expand playoffs to 24 teams and do away with conference championship games:

According to American Football Coaches Association executive director Craig Bohl, the AFCA voted last week to recommend increasing the CFP bracket to a maximum number of teams, do away with conference championship games, end the season during the second week of January and protect the Army-Navy game’s exclusive time window.

The AFCA has not publicly revealed its decisions on those changes, but coaches across college football have made their opinions clear.

Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire, New Mexico’s Jason Eck, San Diego State’s Sean Lewis, Montana State’s Brent Vigen, Michigan State’s Pat Fitzgerald and Old Dominion’s Ricky Rahne were recently named to the AFCA’s Board of Trustees. Returning members of the AFCA’s board include 2026 president Clark Lea (Vanderbilt) and Bret Bielema (Illinois).
