Good morning. The whole family went to Ft. Worth yesterday for Yo’s TCU camp. He said that he didn’t enjoy it as much as SMU. The classes of 2029’s and 2030’s (which is Yo’s class) were in the indoor building the entire time and all of the 2027’s and 2028’s were outside, which is where all of the coaches were located. He and I leave to go to Lubbock tomorrow morning, I think we leave around 5:30 in the morning as we want to get there so he can stretch his legs and walk around a bit before going in. Also of note, both SMU and TCU’s camps were 2 hours while the Texas Tech camp is 4 hours, from 12 to 4 tomorrow. My original plan was to go for a run on Monday morning, but now I’m probably going to go for a run while Yo’s at camp.

Double-T 97.3’s Jamie Lent noted that All-Big 12 freshman infielder Linkin Garcia entered the portal and was immediately signed by the Longhorns. Catcher Davis Rivers has also transferred, to Louisiana Monroe. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams reports in positive news that Nicholls State 1B Caston Thompson committed to Texas Tech, hitting .306 with 14 homers and 43 RBI.

ESPN is reporting that the NCAA has denied Texas Tech’s appeal to reinstate QB Brendan Sorsby. This is a completely separate thing to the ruling that we are waiting on regarding the injunction in District Court.

ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg picked the top non-quarterback playmakers with Trey White and Adam Trick on the list:

“Trey does some things with great leverage,” Texas Tech defensive coordinator Shiel Wood told ESPN. “He’s got some great primary moves as far as pass rush goes, and he’s got some great counters to those moves, and can really read sets well. He’s got a lot of ways to attack, which we love. As far as Adam Trick, effort is the hallmark of his game, the foundational principle. He’s very tough, and I think he’s going to do a great job in the run game for us. Out of those two players, he’s going to have to take on a little bit more of the double-teams than Trey will.”

Bailey and Height had “elite critical factors and traits” that are difficult to replace, Wood said, but both White and Trick bring intelligence, maturity and drive that impacts their playmaking ability.

“We knew that their floor would be extremely high,” Wood said. “We knew that they would be guys that could come in and impact our defense this year, right away. They’re fully capable of coming in and helping us compete to win another Big 12 title, and really meet the standard that we were able to set last year from a defensive standpoint.”
