USA Today has their Big 12 predictions and they think Texas Tech finishes 1st with Ben Roberts tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year:
LB Ben Roberts, Texas Tech. Roberts got the nod in a close vote with two Red Raiders teammates. A third team All-Big 12 pick last season, Roberts was named Big 12 Championship game most outstanding player after picking off two passes and collecting five tackles.
Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams opines that the Big 12 media days are fine, but the SWC press tour was where it was at:
Oh, serious reporting was done in the days of the SWC press tour, but more fun ensued, mainly because it was a 10-day event in which a herd of media members rode the bus around to the conference’s various cities and devoted a full day to each team. Granted, it was easier to pull off back then, considering the SWC consisted of eight schools in Texas and one in Arkansas. We’d usually start at one of the extreme edges of the conference — in Lubbock for Texas Tech or in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Razorbacks.
