On the Gridiron

The Athletic’s Austin Meek on being the villain. That’s the head line, but it’s also sort of a history of Texas Tech football, with quotes from Lawrence Flugence and Spike Dykes as well as Mike Leach and the fissure that his termination caused and where the program is now. I know it is behind a paywall, but it is a good read.

Red Raider Sports’ Lane Selph on Kenny Perry discussing the special teams:

Perry described Simmons as a natural fit for the return game after what he showed throughout fall camp, pointing to his combination of speed, explosiveness and strength as a runner.

“Well, he’s fast, first of all. That kind of helps,” Perry said. “I think he’s just one of those guys that, you know, he’s pretty electric. I think he’s going to do some really amazing things. He’s a strong runner too.”

Red Raider Sports’ Mason Turnbow on the offense finding it’s rhythm:

Sheridan Wilson said at Tuesday’s media availability that the second scrimmage was the best the O-Line has played as a unit so far. Bringing back Howard Sampson and Jacob Ponton, along with Sheridan, and the communication process will be easier. Now it’s just about getting Hunter Zambrano and Jordan Church up to speed, and it looks like they have started playing together as a cohesive unit. Wilson said it’s not for a lack of talent; it’s really just about communication and picking up stunts and twists from the defensive line.

Hunter, despite being hurt most of last season, Church is the only new piece that hasn’t been in Mack Leftwich’s offense, so the guys have taken Church in under their wing and have gotten him caught up to speed really fast.

The Athletic’s Justin Williams reports that the NCAA has cleared Cincinnati or any wrongdoing with the Brendan Sorsby situation. I’ve moved past this, but I’m posting to acknowledge it.
