Recruiting on the Plains: Basketball Offers Go Out; Updates on 2016 Players

Basketball

Texas Tech and Tubby Smith are all over Georgia, in particular Atlanta, as they offered a handful of guys in Georgia.

Thomas Offered. Texas Tech offered Lance Thomas, a 6’7″ small forward from Atlanta, Georgia, Norcross high school. I couldn’t find any video of Thomas,

Durham Offered. Via Shun Williams, Texas Tech offered shooting guard Aljami Durham

Sexton Offered. I can’t find the original tweet, but we’ll go to VerbalCommits where Collin Sexton, a combo guard from Atlanta, Georgia, was offered by Texas Tech. Sexton is a 6’2″ guard from Pebblebrook high school.

Football

Netherly Visiting for the Oklahoma State Game. Via RedRaiderSports’ Drew Kohnle, 2017 Crosby WR Mannie Netherly intends on visiting Texas Tech for the Oklahoma State game, along with Jack Anderson and Xavier Martin. Halloween could be a big night for recruiting.

Smith to Walk-On as Kicker. I caught this note over the weekend, but wanted to share it here too, via the Waco Tribune, where Waco Midway’s Jackson Smith is going to be walking on at Texas Tech this year as a kicker. Wreck’Em 24/7 had talked to Smith earlier in the summer, so this isn’t new news, but it was one of those things that I forgot.

Adebo is One to Watch. Scout’s Gabe Brooks writes that Mansfield ATH Saiid Adebo is one of those junior wide receivers to watch, having been offered by Oklahoma, Texas Tech, SMU, Kansas and Arkansas.

Coleman to Fresno State. This is a bit odd, and when odd things happen, you should take note. Former Texas Tech commit Donte Coleman ended up committing to Fresno State. Level mentioned something last week, which was that Texas Tech may have dropped the offer to Coleman, for what reason, I have no idea, but this is how these things happen. Sometimes it actually is the player “opening up his recruitment” and other times, the team drops the scholarship offer to that player for various reasons (sometimes it’s grades, sometimes it is off-the-field stuff).

Thomas Solid with Texas Tech. RedRaiderSports’ Drew Kohnle writes that Texas Tech defensive line commit Mychealon Thomas, the lone defensive JUCO player for the 2017 class is solid to Texas Tech and looking to arrive at Texas Tech in December:

IN HIS WORDS: “Everything is good. I’m still 100 percent committed, I’m still solid, and I talk with the coaches every week,” he said. “We mainly just talk about how I need to come down there and be a leader. They are losing a lot of senior defensive linemen and coach Gibbs is counting on me to come in there and have an immediate impact.”

Crawford Likes Texas Tech. Via Wreck’Em 24/7’s Ryan Bartow, Rockwall WR Sam Crawford is already a 4-star receiver and hopes to receive an offer from Texas Tech and want to visit (which would be pretty easy as his sister goes to school at Texas Tech).

Dawson Deaton Visiting for Oklahoma State. Dawson Deaton is a 2017 center for the same Frisco team that Jack Anderson plays for and Deaton will visit for the Oklahoma State game. I wonder who will be giving him a ride?
