Staking The Plains Recruiting Notebook: Duffey Dominates; Injuries for Commits

Auwae Back on the Market. 2016 C Toleafoa Sean Auwae was previously committed to UCLA, but decided to decommit on Monday. This is notable news because Auwae had Texas Tech in his top three.

Moore’s Senior Highlights. 2016 LB Kevin Moore (6-0/190) released his senior highlights and they are good to quite good. Moore and Kevin Curtis were close, so Moore might be one that will be tough to hang on to, but he can tackle.

Top Fifty 2016 JUCO’s. ESPN released their top 50 JUCO players and WR Derrick Willies is ranked #3 and WR De’Quan Bowman is ranked #30. The rumors are still out there that Willies’ commitment is shaky at best and I think the possibility of Willies flipping at any point is very real. The only good thing is that Willies is expected to enroll in December, so we’ll have a decision by the middle of December.

Linebacker Injuries. Red Raider Sports’ Drew Kohnle report on 2016 LB commit Brayden Stringer, who broke his forearm in the middle of his senior year and is working on watching film on his future teammates:

“I have watched Johnathan’s and Jordyn’s film just so I can get a feel for these guys that I am going to be playing with. They are two really good linebackers that I am going to be playing next to, and I am very excited for that.

Also injured recently is Johnathan Picone, who has some sort of MCL injury.

2020 Offer. Texas Tech has offered 2020 athlete JaQuinden Jackson (6-1/180). I hope you feel old. In any event, here’s Jackson dominating in middle school.

Duffey Dominates. 2016 QB commit, Jett Duffey, is simply dominating, leading his Lake Ridge team to a 69-40 win over Poteet on Saturday night.

Via the DMN, Duffey finished the day going 25 of 40 for 452 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception, to go along with 147 yards on 14 carries and 2 touchdowns. Duffey is enrolling early, which means that in just a few short weeks, Duffey should be a Red Raider (fingers crossed, rubs rabbit’s foot).

Martin and Denley Injured. Cibolo Steel played Del Rio and won, 28-10, but 2017 QB commit Xavier Martin injured his ankle early in the game and 2016 RB commit Bryson Denley injured a knee after running for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns.

McCann Ready to Play. Red Raider Sports’ Landon Wright talked with 2016 commit, defensive tackle Nick McCann, who says that he’s working extra hard to start or be part of the rotation:

“They want me to start, so I’ve been working out every day after school and just really getting ready for it. I workout every day after school with my strength and conditioning coach, who is my offensive line coach. I work out with him and some other people, he has us doing some really hard stuff.”

2017 OL Dawson Deaton Offered.  Via WreckEm 24/7’s Carlos Silva, Jr. and Red Raider Sports’ Michael DuPont, Texas Tech has offered 2017 legacy Dawson Deaton, who is also the teammate of 2017 commit, Jack Anderson.  Both of Deaton’s parents went to Texas Tech.

2017 WR Omar Manning Offered.  Via Red Raider Sports’ Landon Wright, Texas Tech, TCU and Arizona State all offered 2017 Lancaster WR Omar Manning yesterday.
