Texas Tech Hoops – Where do we go from here?

Let’s discuss the win streak, Tubby Smith, and what we need to do to finish off the improbable run into March Madness.

Texas Tech has won 5 straight Big 12 games for the first time in our conference existence. We have a winning record at 8-7 in the Big 12, and are tied with Iowa State as the #6 team in the conference. Right now every college basketball national media expert has the Red Raiders in their March Madness projected bracket.

Stop and take a moment. Doesn’t it feel good?

No matter how improbable the run has been, this Texas Tech squad is on track to play in the Big Dance. Tubby Smith has been out-coaching his opponents, and our team has been outplaying their conference foes. For that, we have a lot to be proud and thankful for.

There has been a buzz about Tubby Smith being considered for Big 12 coach of the year. The starters and bench players are on a level above any we have seen in many years. The fans are onboard to ride out this glorious season until the end.

After the win over TCU here is what Aaron Ross had to say…

I just feel like coach puts confidence in us and makes us feel like we can win every game. I feel like we can win a lot of games or continue to win games.

Simple and straightforward what Ross said, but it is true. It is showing that Tech is finishing games, even if it takes overtime or a come from behind effort. Everyone has started to believe in this team to come away from every buzzer with a victory.

Now, let’s talk about where we go from here. On Saturday we go to Kansas and play the #2 Jayhawks in Allen Fieldhouse. The probability of winning against Kansas at their home is the lowest of any game on the schedule. Next week we then head off to #14 West Virginia. Not impossible to win there, but we will need to be prepared for a battle or they will run us out of the arena. We finish with a pesky Kansas State team in Lubbock. They already beat us once on the road and will be gunning for a sweep in the series.

The point is that we need to continue to fly high and not end the regular season before the Big 12 tournament on a 3 game losing skid. We need to keep putting in the work to finish strong.

I do believe we have a chance to win the better part of our remaining games. We can finish with a 20 win regular season record and shock the entire country. Keep building that confidence and roll with it into the Big 12 tournament.

It is going to be a fun ride. Let’s finish with a surge and punch our ticket right into March Madness. From here, it’s possible. Wreck ’em Tech!!!
