The Lady Raiders (4-2, 0-0 Big12) play the Arkansas Razorbacks (7-0, 0-0 SEC) today at 3:00pm CST at “Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville, AR. This will be the 27th meeting between these two squads. The Razorbacks hold the lead 9-17. The last meeting was in 2009 and Tech beat Arkansas 75-60. Lady Raiders are coming off a win over Prairie View A&M (85-43). Arkansas has not lost a game yet this season but have not played a substantial basketball team excluding their Navy and Tulsa games. They squeaked by Navy 70-67 and beat Tulsa on Wednesday, 57-50.
The Lady Raiders have three players averaging double figures, led by Recee Caldwell, who is averaging 18 points/game. Ariella Guirantes with 15 points/game and she earned Big12 Freshman of the Week honors two weeks ago, and Jada Terry is averaging 14.5 points/game. Texas Tech is better at the 3-Pt shots and Blocked Shots and Rebounding and I hope that with good shooting from Caldwell and improved FT’s from Jada Terry will lead them to victory over the Razorbacks.
Arkansas is led by Senior Forward Jessica Jackson, who averages 16.7 PPG and 6.4 RPG and has a season-high 22 points and 9 rebounds and has scored in double figures in every game this season. Sophomore Guard Bailey Zimmerman who averages 5.4 PPG and 4.9 RPG with a career-high 11 points and ranks 21st in the NCAA with a 5.0 assist/turnover ratio. Sophomore Guard Malica Monk averages 10.6 PPG and is 90.9% accurate from the Free-throw Line.
