Team Luke
The ITA posted a story yesterday on Team Luke and I’ve posted the video before, but it doesn’t hurt to post it again. The Team Luke Foundation is one that benefits families who have children who have suffered traumatic brain injuries.

Both Baseball America and D1Baseball sent writers to the weekend series and Texas Tech obviously made a pretty good impression. D1Baseball’s Aaron Fitt ($ – but there’s a chunk of the article that is free) wrote this:
The silver lining to all the injuries for Texas Tech is that it has given other talented young players a chance to shine. One of those freshmen, Brian Klein, took over for Davis at second base when Saturday’s suspended game was resumed in the third inning on Sunday. And Klein delivered perhaps the biggest swing of the series, lofting a go-ahead three-run homer down the right-field line in the sixth inning to propel the Raiders to a series-leveling 6-4 win. Davis, who is dealing with an eye issue, had been hitting in the cleanup spot, so that’s where Klein batted once he entered the game. Tech coach Tim Tadlock just left him in the cleanup for the series finale later that afternoon, and Klein rewarded him with two more hits (including a triple) and three runs. It was just the 11th game he has started in his young career.
And Baseball America’s Teddy Cahill wrote about how Texas Tech is winning despite injuries:
Texas Tech won the series despite missing Friday starter Davis Martin and outfielder Tanner Gardner, who both are sidelined by injury. Second baseman Michael Davis was limited to just three innings of action due to allergies affecting his eyes.
Texas Tech will likely have to continue make do for a while without some of its stars. Gardner has what Tadlock described as a “pretty bad ankle sprain.” Martin has already missed four starts and, while he is throwing, is not back to full strength. Davis is considered day-to-day.
- D1Baseball has Texas Tech back up to #6.
- Baseball America has Texas Tech at #5.
Texas Tech Football
Our lone ESPN Big 12 Blog Bro, Jake Trotter has his post-spring rankings and has Texas Tech at #9:
9. Texas Tech Red Raiders (9): Texas Tech’s offense took a hit last week when 2016 leading receiver Jonathan Giles (1,158 yards, 13 TDs) announced that he’s transferring. The Red Raiders have other capable weapons for new QB Nic Shimonek in Keke Coutee, Dylan Cantrell and Cameron Batson. But Tech’s job of replacing first round QB Patrick Mahomes just got even tougher.
