Gabe Holt can’t stop winning awards as he was named to Baseball America’s First Team Freshman All-American team (TexasTech). This is Holt’s fifth freshman award thus far.

Texas Tech Basketball

KSAT talked to Texas Tech basketball commit Kevin McCullar about his commitment to Texas Tech and why he committed. There’s video there, but here’s a quote:

“The relationship he had with me and my family, coming down twice on home visits, everything like that just meant a lot to me. Everything he’s doing at Texas Tech is a great thing he has going,” McCullar said. “It was the whole package. Coach Beard was the main reason why, the relationship we built and the atmosphere there, the Big 12 conference, everything like that I wanted to be a part of.”

Three players, no, check that, three defensive players, were selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Team, those players being linebacker Dakota Allen, safety Jah’Shawn Johnson, and safety/linebacker Justus Parker (TexasTech). That’s the first time in a very long time that I don’t remember an offensive player being part of the first team, but three defensive players leads the Big 12. Oklahoma led all Big 12 selections with 7 (two of them were special teams, punter/place kicker Austin Seibert). You can check out the entire team here (PDF). If you’re looking for more content, LandGrant Gauntlet has their preseason team and they also have three defensive players, but includes defensive tackle Broderick Washington, but excludes Justus Parker.

I sorta forgot all about this yesterday, but this happened on Tuesday and broken by Rivals’ Matt Clare, as San Diego defensive end Mark Brown decided to transfer to Texas Tech. Brown was part of the 2017 class and was a 3-star defensive end, but is now up to 6-3/225. I honestly think that Brown will have to sit out a year before he’ll be eligible, but I’m not completely sure.

Texas Tech commit Brandon Joseph from College Station was on a local College Station sports show, KAGS, yes, K AGS and other than that, this was a nice interview for what appears to be a really good kid and it is somewhat promoting Texas Tech on KAGS, so I’m good here.

LandGrant Gauntlet’s Josh Cowan ranks the receiver units in the Big 12 with Texas Tech being ranked 8th overall with so many receivers graduating.

SaturdayDownSouth has the story that Kliff Kingsbury told about Johnny Manziel, partying in the Scooby Doo costume on Halloween, showing up hung over the next day and then going out and whipping Mississippi State. I wonder if Kingsbury’s tolerance, or lack thereof, has become a bit more strict over the years.
