I hope I have this correct in that 2023 defensive end Isaiah Crawford is the first commit for the 2023 class.

This was a pretty big get for head coach Joey McGuire as Crawford is from Post and originally committed to Baylor. This may have been one of those straws that was ultimately the downfall for Matt Wells. Crawford committed to Baylor on June 23, 2021, largely because of McGuire, and then as McGuire got the Texas Tech job, Crawford backed off of his commitment to Baylor and was the first commit to the 2023 class for Texas Tech.
This past year, Crawford had 78 tackles, 16 tackles for a loss, 5 sacks, and a forced fumble.
Crawford doesn’t have his junior film up just yet, but here are highlights against Farwell High School. You can check on Crawford’s Hudl profile linked above to watch all of his highlights. Crawford is usually the stand-up defensive end and he’s pretty well dominating Farwell. They don’t stand a chance. He’s fast, physical, has a great frame and is likely going to grow into it as he’s at 6’4″ and probably still growing a bit. This is exactly the type of player that should never leave West Texas.
