CBS Sports’ Dennis Dodds has 23 compelling storylines this year (this is a fun read, nothing too serious) and it’s becoming a blurry line as to whether or not Texas Tech is underrated or now overrated:

8. Team no one is talking about: Last year, it was TCU and Tulane. This year … check out Texas Tech. Coach Joey McGuire won eight games in his first season. Quarterback Tyler Shough is 8-1 as a starter at TTU. Oregon, Houston and Kansas State come to Lubbock. Oklahoma isn’t on the schedule. Watch Syracuse transfer Steve Linton coming off the edge.

The Lady Raiders announced their non-conference schedule including a trip to Las Vegas to take on Rutgers and Santa Clara.

Red Raider Sports’ Jarrett Ramirez has two posts, wide receivers coach Juice Johnson and inside linebackers coach Josh Bookbinder. This is a bit from the receivers post:

“There’s a lot of guys anxious to make plays out there,” Johnson said following Tech’s Wednesday evening practice. “I think that we have some depth. With what coach (Zach) Kittley does, we’re never gonna kind of let a team take a guy away from us. We got enough built into the system to where we can do some things. So I expect JB to be able to go out, and he’s prepared himself to be able to go out and have a year… If teams, you know, wanna try to do that and take him away, we have full confidence in our other guys that they’re gonna make plays, as well. JB knows there’s no pressure on him to have to carry everything.”

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Nathan Giese talked to defensive end Joseph Adedire and this part is what he learned from watching Tyree Wilson:

“I got his relentless effort,” Adedire said. “When you sit, when you watch his film, you saw he’s everywhere. He’s diving for tackles, he got through blocks. He’s fighting, and that’s what I really got from him. There’s certain traits and stuff you’ll pick up as you go, but that relentless effort, that’s what you really need. … You can mess up, but you need that effort to really dominate.”
