Texas Tech Football Notebook: Patrick Mahomes’ Stats Are Incredible; Jett Duffey Wins in Waco

Good, to Pretty Good. ESPN’s Max Olson takes a look at some Big 12 numbers and QB Patrick Mahomes might be pretty good:

Since Nov. 15, when he made his second career start against Oklahoma, Mahomes ranks No. 1 in the nation in passing (436 yards per game) and No. 1 in completions of 20-plus yards (28). He’s thrown 18 TDs and three interceptions in his last four starts, a ratio that ranks fifth-best in FBS over that span.

Add in his rushing production and Mahomes has accounted for 1,863 total yards since Nov. 15. Only Marcus Mariota beat that number.

During that four-game stretch, Mahomes has emerged as a fearless deep-ball machine. Nobody has thrown more 20-plus yard passes. Mahomes has even tried six throws of more than 40 yards. The result: four completions, 210 yards, four TDs.

Golden Dangerous. LAJ’s Don Williams writes about dangerous returner Autrey Golden for UTEP:

Golden references his old coach again when asked how he manages the fear of violent collisions that come with being a return man.

“Honestly, I don’t know how I do that,” he said. “When I was first getting used to returning kicks at the college level, one thing my coach told me was, ‘You’ve got to have blind faith. Even though it doesn’t look like (the hole) is there, you’ve got to trust it and hit the thing going full speed.’”

El Paso Times Looks at Texas Tech. The El Paso Times’ Bret Bloomquist writes about Texas Tech:

Going back to the days when current head coach Kliff Kingsbury was playing for Texas Tech 15 years ago, the book on the Red Raiders has been consistent.

Their four-wideout air attack lights up defenses with a video-game like efficiency, hoping to put up enough points to carry a defense that usually is on the field a bunch without proficiency to match.

On the Clock: Mike Smith | Double T Insider:

Duffey Has a Great Game. Texas TEch QB commit Jett Duffey had an excellent game against Waco, via DFW Varsity, Duffey threw for 188 yards with 3 touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown, including a 51 yard run at the end of the half, which was intended to be a Hail Mary play, but the pocket broke down and Duffey just tucked the ball and ran for a touchdown.

Uniform Done Right. Good job Under Armour.

Pretty amazing to think that what’s been done before can actually look terrific.

Miscellaneous. SB Nation’s Bill Connelly is back picking games (I some how missed last week) and the formula is picking Texas Tech, but not to cover . . . DMN’s Michael DuPont also picks Texas Tech, but expects the game to be close and has his everything you need to know post about the game . . . LandGrant Gauntlet’s Kyle Lang previews Texas Tech vs. UTEP . . .
