Waxahachie defensive back Calvin Simpson-Hunt became the third commit for the 2023 class for Texas Tech.
I’d like to thank my mom (@fit_43life) for everything and my coaches at @NDNFootball for believing in me and investing in me daily.
I’m honored to say that I’m committed to Texas Tech University. #WreckEm @JoeyMcGuireTTU @jkbtjc_53 @Tolleson20 @CoachDT_TFB @CoachZeno pic.twitter.com/3B1dQp5epi

Texas Tech was Simpson-Hunt’s first offer and he pretty well committed immediately. RedRaiderSports’ Ben Golan spoke with Simpson-Hunt about his commitment:
“Tech was one of those schools, I get to stay home in Texas, that’s somewhere I’ve always been. It’s home but it’s not too close. It’s just one of those things, my coaches have been contacting all these colleges and Texas Tech pulled the trigger first, and I took a favor to them. I already had a favor before they offered because I already liked the school itself.
I’ve been told that once you get one offer, the others come because you got the one offer. Texas Tech was the school who pulled the trigger after seeing my film.”
If you go to Simpson-Hunt’s Hudl page, he has junior highlights as one of the first things you’ll see, but I wasn’t able to embed them. So below is highlights from Waxahachie’s game against Temple. Watching both his junior highlights and this video, you can tell that Simpson-Hunt has terrific speed, I would say that it’s high-end as most defensive backs re fast, but he’s probably got that extra gear. Simpson-Hunt tracks the ball really well for someone who is only 17.
