Things heated up yesterday from a Texas Tech transfer-in perspective and really football news since we checked in. We found out that running back Tahj Brooks and tackle Caleb Rogers (he will move to guard next year) will return.

  • Over the weekend, Arizona State tight end Jalin Conyers (6-4/270) from Gruver committed. Conyers had 30 receptions for 362 yards and also ran 22 times for 92 yards and a touchdown last year.
  • Then a commitment from Weber State punter Jack Burgess (6-2/215) who averaged 47.2 yards a punt last year. Burgess is also an Aussie so there’s that.
  • Yesterday started a flurry of commitments starting with Toledo guard Vinny Sciury (6-3/305) had has 30 starts for the Rockets.
  • Florida receiver Caleb Douglas (6-3/200), originally from Missouri City, had 11 receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown last year. I think he was hampered by some injuries this past year as his sophomore year.
  • University of Guelph (which is in Canada) defensive back Devynn Cromwell (6-1/197) and Cromwell is supposed to have elite physical traits.
  • That’s it for the transfers, but a handful of recruiting gurus believe that Washington State receiver Josh Kelly will commit to Texas Tech. Kelly led the Cougars with 923 receiving yards, 15 yards a catch on 61 receptions and 8 touchdowns.
  • In addition to the transfers, Texas Tech also received a commitment from Garden City C.C. offensive lineman J’Marion Gooch (6-9/310) as a preferred walk-on. Gooch started at Missouri.

I’d only advise you that these transfers are all great. The hope is that they will be big contributors, but it can sometimes take time. Think about Jessiah Pierre who was heralded coming out of Florida as a former 4-star, but it took him a year to adjust in 2021, and then played much more in 2022, and then has been very good in 2023. it might not take everyone that long, but it can be tough to expect immediate results.

The Lady Raiders demolished Incarnate Word yesterday afternoon, 76-35. Jasmine Shavers led all scorers with 15 points and Bailey Maupin scored 11, which included her 500th career point.

Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams was there for the media scrum with head coach Joey McGuire who talked about Caleb Rogers returning and moving to guard or center. McGuire thinks that Ty Buchannan will be at right htackle and left tackle could be Matt Keeler, Dalton Merryman (a preferred walk-on) or freshman Daniel Sill
