Happy 4th of July! I hope you have a great day!
On the Gridiron
A second commit in as many days with New Boston running back Ashton Rowden (6-0/192). Rowden has Power 4 offers from Arkansas, TCU, Houston, Minnesota, Michigan State, and Kansas State, as well as a bunch of Grant of 5 offers. Rowden ran for 1,700 yards and 22 touchdowns last year as a junior. According to 24/7 Sports, Rowden is the 52nd best running back in the nation and the 128th best player in Texas. Based on his video, he is fast and good.
Recruiting Profiles: On3 and 24/7 Sports.
On3’s J. Ramirez spoke to Rowden regarding his commitment, saying that Texas Tech never let up off the gas in recruiting.
ESPN with a sleeper player for every top 25 team:
Sleeper: DL Romello Height
A transfer from Georgia Tech, Height is not necessarily an unknown. But for as bad as the Texas Tech defense was last season (only Tulsa allowed more passing yards, and the Red Raiders allowed 35 points or more eight times), Height could play a massive role in Lubbock if he’s able to help fix what was a painful watch for Texas Tech fans at times in 2024. The more high-profile transfer on this defensive line unquestionably is David Bailey, who comes in from Stanford, but Height could very well become a name that Red Raiders fans will become familiar with given his potential. — Lyles Jr.
On the Hardwood
ESPN’s Jeff Borzello with the impact player for each team:
Impact newcomer: LeJuan Watts
Texas Tech suffered a tough loss when potential All-American Darrion Williams opted to enter the transfer portal instead of returning to Lubbock, but coach Grant McCasland landed a capable replacement in Watts. The 6-foot-6 forward will look to create the same kinds of matchup problems Williams did for the Red Raiders, after averaging 13.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.4 assists, while shooting 42% from 3 for Washington State.
CBS Sports’ Kyle Boone with a 2026 NBA Mock Draft and has JT Toppin going to the Cavaliers at No. 29.
Texas Tech’s Wes Bloomquist continues his Q&A series with Josiah Moseley:
What do you bring to the team on and off the court?
“I bring intensity and try to be one of the loudest players on the court at all times. I try to do the all the little things to help our team win. Off the court, I can be shy but also outgoing once I get to know you. I’m real big on camaraderie and supporting my teammates.”
What do you want to get most out of summer workouts?
“My goal is to keep getting stronger and better. I’ve been working with Coach Wright every day to work on my agility and explosiveness to make me an even better player on the court.”
