Good morning. Was at basketball for most of the afternoon yesterday in Duncanville with Youssouf (and Fitsum to watch little brother) and on the court next to us was Lucai Anderson (Christian Anderson’s little brother) for Southern Assault. The next big commit for basketball I’ll give my very unprofessional scouting report. Southern Assault did lose to Family Ties (a Dallas program, while Southern Assault is based basically in Ft. Worth), although Southern Assault was down by double-digits and came roaring back.

On the Diamond

Texas Tech baseball is in a bad spot right now. They lost 10-3 on Friday night and run-ruled yesterday, 12-2. The final game is today at 2:00 p.m.

On the Hardwood

Lady Raider basketball signed two players out of the portal. The first is Salt Lake Community College’s Tahys Da Silva:

“Tahys is an All-American with elite three-point shooting ability,” Gerlich said. “She is one of the most efficient players in the nation. A big, athletic guard with great passing as well, fits into our system perfectly. Her length will impact our perimeter defense along with her impressive work ethic. She is another French connection for the Lady Raiders that will continue to elevate our program.”

Da Silva is a 6-0 guard from Paris, France who comes to Texas Tech from Salt Lake Community College in Utah. Over her career, Da Silva recorded 12.1 points per game, 3.0 assists per game, 2.3 steals per game, 2.9 rebounds per game, 46 blocks, a .450 field goal percentage, a .396 three-point percentage and an .806 free throw percentage.

The second to sign is 5’7″ Purdue guard Kiki Smith:

“We have loved Kiki Smith over her career because of her scorer’s mentality,” Gerlich said. “She has a quick release and efficient three-point shot but is also very capable of getting downhill and finishing at the rim or finding teammates with her passing ability. She has proven herself as a double figure scorer in the SEC and Big 10, and we feel our system will elevate her performance even more. Kiki has an incredible work ethic, disciplined mindset and easy-to-follow leadership style. I love her joy for the game and infectious personality, too. Lady Raider Nation will instantly be big Kiki Smith fans.”

In her junior season at Purdue last year, Smith played in 30 games while starting in 21. She was second on the team in points per game with 10.7, while also ranking second on the team in three-pointers with 49. Shooting 39.9 percent from the field (112-for-281), Smith also added 65 assists, 36 steals and 68 rebounds. Smith totaled 16 double-figure scoring games and two 20-plus point games last season. Against Penn State on Feb. 4, she posted a new career-best in points with 24 on 53.8 percent shooting from the field (7-for-13) while adding a career-high of seven rebounds.

Texas Tech made it official with the signing of Hofstra guard Cruz Davis. You can check out the eligibility chart for the Davis commitment from Friday morning.
