Texas Tech football also announced a game with New Mexico in 2027, which replaces a game with North Texas that was to be played in Denton. The first domino that fell was that NC State dropped the game in Lubbock, prompting Texas Tech to drop the game game away at North Texas in order to keep 6 home games. I think that the buyout of both games was $1 million, so $1 million was paid to Texas Tech from NC State and that $1 million went to North Texas. Lubbock Avalanche-Journal’s Don Williams reports that Texas Tech will pay New Mexico $1.2 million. Texas Tech still needs to fill one more date.

If their slew of Denton transplants work out, the Cowboys could be a dangerous underdog. Texas Tech can’t be complacent after a 42-0 blowout last season.
