Late night with practice for me and I’ve got to get going by 5:30 so a bit short and sweet today.

On the Diamond

Texas Tech jumped out early on Mississippi State with a Lis 2-run homer and never looked back. The Davis score at the plate was all hustle as was the Terry score to end it. Before you know it, Mississippi State was run-ruled and the game was over. And Taylor Pannell will face her former team in Tennessee and her former coach who accused Texas Tech of tampering.

On the Gridiron

I had no idea that yesterday would turn out as interesting as it did. The Big 12 was holding their spring meetings and head coach Joey McGuire responded by saying that he’s talked to the head coaches for Abilene Christian, who plays Texas Tech, and Texas State, who plays Texas, buying out their contracts so that they can play each other, and Texas Tech and Texas play week 1. Cody Campbell then posted that he would pay for the buyout for Texas. I think that some of this is performative and some of this is real. It’s not a surprise to see McGuire stick up for the Big 12 and besides, Sarkisian fired the first shot, a shot he didn’t need to take at the Big 12. McGuire is technically correct, Sarkisian didn’t necessarily take a shot at Texas Tech, he said that if Texas played their 2’s and 3’s that they’d win the Big 12. By offering to play Texas and buy out their current deal, this puts Texas in a lose-lose situation, they certainly won’t accept this deal, but now it forces Sarkisian to either put his money where his mouth has run or claim something else, like they already have a tough schedule, why would they schedule Texas Tech. Just another excuse. I’d also add McGuire also saw the internet comments coming from a mile away, that folks would chirp about not scoring in the playoff or getting beat 57-7 the last time Texas played Texas Tech. Whatever. It will never happen because Texas can’t actually do the thing, but it sure is fun!
